Fake Is The New Real

The paragraph below was a social media comment I made regarding a dear friend’s frustration with numerous layers of people on her life whom she described as fake. Her post also captured the cataclysmic life shift that occurred in the passing of her sister. The following words just flowed because her post deeply resonated with me.

The death of a sibling cuts so deep. The grief and continuous pain are inexplicable. The hole and hurt are dizzy and crazy making. I learned that people are who they are. They’re not me. Therefore, expecting them to be me is a false and unrealistic expectation. People, by nature, are disingenuous and don’t have the capacity to truly be there for others unless they’re getting something out of the situation. Fakeness has become the new reality. People say words and engage in performative actions. However, there’s a remnant of true, compassionate, and loving genuine beings on the earth realm. It is our responsibility to find our tribe through divine guidance. These are the people who were created to hold us up during dark, turbulent times.

Losing that precious loved one creates an individual awakening that allows us to see life, people, and situations through a clear set of lenses. It’s not that people are fake; it’s just that you’ve become so incredibly real.
