These Didn’t Work For Me

I was so excited when Novo Nordisk announced the release of the Wegovy pill. I started using GLP-1 medications in 2021. I stopped and resumed in 2023 and 2024. In fact, I actually started several years earlier. I’ll save my GLP-1 labyrinth for a future post. Now back to the Wegovy pills. I started on a 9mg dose because I had been on the highest dose of Tirzepatide since November 2025. The cost of the prescription was $1,348.80 since my medical insurance doesn’t cover obesity medication. However, I was able to save $1,049.80 with the manufacturer's coupon from Novo Nordisk Pharmaceutical Industries. This decreased the cost to $299.00. My total cost, including local taxes, was $359.83. I started the medication on January 24, 2026, and discontinued the medication on March 24, 2026. Now taking Wegovy pills requires structure. It is suggested that the pill be taken first thing in the morning on an empty stomach with no more than four ounces of water. Then I had to wait at least thirty minutes after taking the pill before eating, drinking other fluids, or taking other oral medications. The appetite suppression was excellent. However, I had to strictly monitor my carbohydrate intake and revert to methods of eating when I resumed taking the medication in 2024.
I started gaining weight within two days of starting the medication. I did not panic. I increased water intake and switched from Lose It! to Dose AI tracker. Also, increasing protein, collagen, and fiber had no effect; the pounds kept creeping up. The medication was increased to the highest dose in February 2026, and my weight continued to climb. I had to accept the fact that this medication, although ground-breaking, was not for me. I had a consultation with my obesity specialist and indicated to her that I had to resume the Tirzepatide 15mg injections. I resumed the injections, and within days the scale started going in the right direction.
In April 2026, I shared my Wegovy pill experience with my primary care physician, and she said something that made absolute sense. She indicated that because I had been on the highest dose of Tirzepatide (which is a stronger medication than Wegovy), there was no way I would continue losing weight on the Wegovy pill. She further stated it would probably be a good maintenance medication once I achieved my goal, but it's not strong enough because my body had become acclimated to the highest dose of Tirzepatide. So, for now, I'm grateful and thankful to God and the scientists for creating medications for those of us who diligently tried everything and did not get solid results until we started using GLP-1 medications.
